Austro-Hungarian Danube River Fleet Officer’s Dagger, a rare ceremonial piece from the late 19th to early 20th century, exhibiting remarkable craftsmanship throughout. The straight, double-edged blade of diamond cross-section features fine etched and engraved decoration, still clearly visible along its surface. The gilt-bronze hilt displays the iconic dolphin-shaped crossguard symbolizing naval and river service, while the fluted ivory (or imitation) grip ends with a richly ornamented ferrule and crown-shaped pommel. The gilded brass scabbard is adorned with high-relief decoration including an anchor beneath a royal crown and the D.S.F. monogram — Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft, the Danube Steamship Company later associated with the imperial river fleet. The surface is richly ornamented with scrolling motifs and shell-shaped suspension fittings. Overall condition is very good for its age, with noble patina and fine presentation. A scarce and elegant dagger, considerably rarer than the standard Austro-Hungarian naval patterns.
